Title: "High laser-power target challenges"

Lecturer: Prof. Richard Stephens

Abstract:
Targets for high energy-density plasma research must meet multiple, sometimes conflicting goals: access for driver beams, precise control of target structure evolution and usable diagnostics signals, and safety for the target chamber. The more power/intensity/energy delivered to the target the harder that becomes, but also the more opportunities present for turning the problems into opportunities for new approaches. This talk will take examples from a career spent on fast ignition inertial fusion research to illustrate the issues.
